Education
The home for international education including descriptions of Primary Years Programme (PYP) and Middle Years Programme (MYP) among other great material. It is our intent to be an accredited IB school.
Here is a very complete description of TWI programs, a program directory, guidelines, and FAQ and toolboxes for practitioners. You'll leave this site with a much deeper understanding of what dual language means.
The information found in this site closely represents our approach to Social and Emotional Learning (SEL).
Advocacy
This group is focused on the goal of implementing a dual language immersion program (English/Spanish) in Austin public schools.
Mission: Through a balanced program of research, professional development, and public education, TABE pursues the implementation of educational policies and effective bilingual-bicultural programs that promote equal educational opportunity and academic excellence for language minority students.
This blog on Texas education contains posts on accountability, testing, dropouts, bilingual education, immigration, school finance, race, class, and gender issues with additional focus at the national level. This blog reflects University of Texas Professor Angela Valenzuela's work as a scholar and researcher of Texas education policy and politics.
This site is designed to encourage discussion of language policy issues, expose misguided school "reforms" and their impact on language-minority students, report on pending language legislation, illuminate the policy debates over Bilingual Education and much more.
Green Building
The Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Green Building Rating System™ is the nationally accepted benchmark for the design, construction, and operation of high performance green buildings. LEED for Schools Rating System recognizes the unique nature of the design and construction of K-12 schools. Based on LEED for New Construction, it addresses issues such as classroom acoustics, master planning, mold prevention, and environmental site assessment. By addressing the uniqueness of school spaces and children’s health issues, LEED for Schools provides a unique, comprehensive tool for schools that wish to build green, with measurable results. LEED for Schools is the recognized third-party standard for high performance schools that are healthy for students, comfortable for teachers, and cost-effective.
Mission: The Sustainable Building Coalition is a network of individuals interested in sustainable and ecological building, design and development.
A great local resource. Touted as "the most successful utility-sponsored sustainable building program in the nation!"
