It has been a very busy month at ACS. Many thanks to those of you who signed the petition or came to the State Board of Education meeting. We presented the Board Chair with nearly 300 signatures asking to extend the deadline for our charter application group. Yet it seems the decision will be stalled for at least two years. However, we are pursuing other avenues so that this school can be opened much sooner:

1) College charter: A recently passed bill, made it possible for community colleges to open charters. Working with Austin Community College is a possibility. The University of Texas may also be ready for this kind of program.

2) AISD: With a new superintendent for Austin Independent School District comes a renewed interested in dual language. Currently we are talking with AISD to encourage this direction and offer our support.
